Bible study is a labor of Love. A labor of love for our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. For the Christian, reading your Bible is almost instinctual and failure to do so has an effect. If you read your Bible, you feel good. If you don’t read your Bible, you feel guilty.

If you find some world-changing information in your Scriptural study, you feel overjoyed as if you are closer to God! If you are trudging through Leviticus and you are struggling to understand the Scriptures, you feel disappointed, isolated, and estranged from God.

Often times, new Christians first questions include: “Where do I start?” “What now?” “What book of the Bible should I read first?”

Does this sound familiar? I offered many scenarios to relate to.

But sometimes, the best Pastoral Advice I can give is, just get started!

It may be extra Biblical advice but I love the quote by Dropbox’s CEO, Drew Houston. He states,

“If you have a dream, you can spend a lifetime studying, planning, and getting ready for it. What you should be doing is getting started”

The Christian faith is not a faith of complacency. It is not a S.W.A.T. force faith, where you have to approach everything with Special Weapons and Tactics. Just start.

Scripture is a book breathed out by God and is holy edifying (Romans 15:4; 2 Timothy 3:16). Do not fear it, at least in regards, that your eternal confidence is shaken by whether you pick it up or not. Just get started. If you want pastoral advice to where to start, whether younger or older Christian, go to Romans.

But truly, just get started. Fall in love with the Word which speaks of the purest love. The love of God (Romans 5:8). Just get started.
