Oh the Humanity!

One afternoon on May 6th, 1937, over the horizon many onlookers gazed at a large mass steadily piercing the air and approaching. It was hydrogen powered airship, the LZ 129 Hindenburg. As it approached an airfield in New Jersey, in an effort to dock, it without warning ignited, killing 35 of the 97 people on board and one person on the ground. 36 people were killed within a 90 second hydrogen fire.

To this day, no one truly knows what started this and many remember footage of the event, the announcement made by prominent radio broadcaster and pilot, Herbert Morrison, exclaiming, “Oh the humanity!”

And indeed, oh, the humanity that was lost. In 90 seconds. 36 lives lost.

There are many estimates to how many people have lived on Earth thorough out all of history. Many say nearly 117 billion people have lived on Earth throughout all of Earth’s history.

How many have been lost in the microscopic amount time of Earth has existed? How many are perishing each second? Oh, the humanity!

How many can be Saved today? Well actually, I know the answer to that one.

Every single one (John 3:16; 1 Timothy 2:4). Not everyone will be saved. But everyone can be saved. Jesus Christ has provided a way to grace for all of humanity no matter how depraved and wrongful they live. One drop of Jesus Christ’s blood is just that powerful. His Ressurection stands as testimony.

Christ has provided a Church to take the message of grace to all of humanity (Ephesians 3; Romans 6:23).
