“By faith Abraham, when he was tried, offered up Isaac: and he that had received the promises offered up his only begotten son,

18 Of whom it was said, That in Isaac shall thy seed be called:

Accounting that God was able to raise him up, even from the dead; from whence also he received him in a figure.” ~ Heb. 11:17-19

In Genesis 22, you find a unique story unlike any other in Scripture. Abraham, once Abram, was instructed to do an unthinkable task. A task that foreshadowed by a sacrifice far greater by God Himself. God instructs Abraham to take his one and only son, and sacrifice him.

No matter how firm your Faith is, this story causes a knee jerk, “What?!” reaction. What is even more shocking about this story is Abraham’s response of obedience. He gets up, prepares transport, and takes his son to the mountains to do so. But right before he plunges the sacrificial knife into his son, God intervenes and forbids Abraham from doing so.

It is hard to imagine what was going through Abraham’s head in these times but 1800 years later, believers get an answer from the book of Hebrews 11:17-19. Abraham held on to a promise. He believed on and in God’s power, knowing He had the power to raise the dead.

Do we as Christians not do the same thing as we live our lives as a living sacrifice (Romans 12:1-2)? We go through our life with the hope of glory and faith that we too will rise towards Heaven on the day of our judgement. We have faith in our resurrection and faith in The Resurrection of Jesus Christ.

We believe. Therefore we sacrifice. And God has and God will save us every time.
