“Pray with a Sense of Urgency!”

I remember being younger.

We all do I would imagine and I would hope. In recalling your younger self, think upon your work ethic.

Hopefully, it has matured.

As humbly as I can say it, I believe that mine has. I know this, because sometimes I can hear the words of my elders exclaiming, “Let’s move with a sense of urgency!”

Now, as if caught in a cycle of responsibility, I catch myself telling those younger than me, “Let’s move with a sense of urgency!”

For the Christian, we are often preached that urgency for the Gospel is important. This I know, is true.

But little do I ever hear of a quickness to Pray. It may be said that we need to pray as different situations arise, but when is it ever said, “Let’s pray with a sense of urgency!”

This is strange considering Christendom’s legacy of Prayer, particularly that which is found in the life of the Apostle Paul.

In Romans 15:30-32, we see an illustration of the urgent prayer as Paul beseeches the church in Rome to pray for him to God, for deliverance and for the Gospel of Grace to have its way. No different of a prayer is prayed in 2 Thessalonians 3:21.

And oh what beautiful and humble words proceed in the prayer of Ephesians 6:19-20.

And for me, that utterance may be given unto me, that I may open my mouth boldly, to make known the mystery of the gospel,

For which I am an ambassador in bonds: that therein I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak.”

Prayer to God, is a work of faith, no lesser in service unto fellow Christians. So now I encourage you the same as myself…

“Let’s move with a sense of urgency!”

Urgency coupled with the purpose of the Gospel is an indispensable power that we all are richly blessed in carrying by the Holy Spirit.

Pray for one another.
