First Sunday of Advent 2021
The first Sunday of Advent 2021 is on 28th November 2021. Advent season lasts for four weeks before the coming of Christmas. During this time, the world preps up for the biggest celebration of Christianity. Carol singing, preparing cribs, Christmas tree and many other activities take place. The advent is the start of liturgical year in the Western Christian world. This festive time is spent with lots of prayers and celebrations to welcome the coming of the Lord Jesus Christ.
It is said that the word Advent is adapted from the Latin language word adventus. The meaning of adventus in Latin is arrival. Hence the advent season is all about coming of Christ. The offerings and services in the churches during this time have special significance. In Eastern Christianity, the advent is called Nativity Fast.

Tradition of Advent Wreath
Many activities like advent Candle lighting and advent wreath are observed during this time. Advent wreath is observed in churches as well as at homes. The concept is quite as old as 16th century. Later on it took shape of the advent wreath in modern world. Four candles are lit during this time; each candle on every Sunday of advent season.
The lighting of candles symbolize hope, faith, and joy for the coming of Christ. Advent wreath is a crown shape made from pine cones and other tree branches. They are knotted with red coloured ribbons. The wreath is further decorated with four candles. Three candles are violet and one candle is pink. The pink candle is lit on the third Sunday of Advent season. Many people also follow tradition of lighting fifth candle on Christmas Eve which is mostly white coloured candle.
In Christianity, candles stand for purity, redemption, faith, and festivity. Generally white candles symbolize purity and festivity. Purple candles stand for faith and perseverance and pink candle stand for joy.
