How Angels Can Help Us Before understanding how angels can help us we need to understand the origin of angels and what their purpose was in the beginning and now. It’s quite obvious that most of us probably aren’t even aware that we may have been in the presence of an angel(s) before and the reason is simple. We are always looking for the physical things in life instead of the spiritual. These beings are God’s creations, just as we are, but they aren’t flesh and blood like us. We will go into further detail on what they may look like as we get further along. In this post, I will cover good and bad angels and major points in their roles in our lives today. The way Hollywood depicts them is far fetched from reality. Buckle-up and get ready because we are now going to enter the supernatural zone! Good Versus Evil Let’s get this out of the way first so we can enjoy our study of angels. Satan is known as Lucifer and the Morning Star.  Before his leaving heaven he was the highest-ranking angel. He was an anointed guardian cherub who was most beautiful, a supreme archangel above all others. In Ezekiel, it even indicates he may have been over the praise and worship, but it’s not really clear. His position seemed to have gone to his head because he really coveted the position of God, which was a huge mistake! God is the only true God and the creator of all. He would not allow the disrespect and impudence of Lucifer to continue so God turned Lucifer and his followers away from heaven. The bible tells us that Lucifer had many followers and that one-third of the angels went with him. The bible also tells us in Daniel 7:10 there is a myriad of angels. A myriad is 10,000 x 10,000 which is 100 million. This may be an example to show there are more than we can count. Praise God! Do Angels Serve Us and God? One of the things that surprised me when I first studied angels is that they have free will, just as we do. That is obvious when you reflect on the story of Satan and his evil ways. He obviously had angels who wanted to follow him and they were allowed to make that decision and go with Satan. God’s angels were created by Him to fulfill His divine purposes. No one knows when they first came into existence but we know it was before mankind. Many places in the bible angels are referred to as “sons of God”. I’ve always felt that God created humans because He wanted a family. I’m sure that might have been part of the reason for creating angels as well. He calls them His sons and us His children. While that sounds the same, God never has referred to angels as His children, so to God, I feel there is a difference. Angels do serve God because in the bible it is written that they are used to give messages to people from Him. These beings sometimes appeared as men and other times as angelic beings. There was one instance in the bible where an angel appeared to the apostle John and he fell to the ground and started to worship the angel. The angel immediately tells him not to do that because he is merely a fellow servant. They all have different jobs and while some may be messengers, others are warriors. In the book of Daniel, chapter 10, it tells the story of an angel that had tried to bring Daniel an answer to his prayer for 21 days. Why did it take so long? Because the messenger angel was fighting a demon and the battle was so fierce that a warrior angel had to come and help the first messenger. That’s why it’s so important to not give up on unanswered prayers too quickly. God sends the answer the minute we ask but there are evil spirits (bad angels) out there trying to stop the word of God from getting to us! That’s why the bible talks about spiritual warfare and how as Christians we should put on the full armor of God every single day! Other angels are ministering angels that bring us other things we need, like peace, comfort, etc. When people are grieving over a lost one it’s always a good idea to pray for God to send His ministering angels to that family. What Do Angels Look Like? Most artwork of angels is tiny cherubs that look like little children with wings but that is not the case. There are two kinds of angels, and they are called Seraphim and Cherubim. Seraphim – Described in the book of Revelations as fiery six-winged beings that have two wings covering their face. They have another two wings that cover their feet and two more they use to fly. Cherubim – Described in the book of Genesis and Exodus as having four faces. A man, an ox, a lion, and symbols of four evangelists. They have four conjoined wings covered with eyes. One place in Revelation describes them with six wings, a lion’s body, and the feet of oxen. This indicates God may have made some of them different. Those are what I call the “legal” descriptions of angels but in the bible, they usually appear to humans in a completely different form. I know if I saw a Cherubim, it would probably make me think I was going crazy. That look might scare me and other humans so God usually gives them a look that won’t scare us. Besides appearing as strangers at the door or as winged men in the bible, we know that these beings are here to serve God and help us. There are countless stories of people who claim to have seen angels and they are pretty impressive! I pray that someday I will be allowed by God to have this experience. My desire is to walk in the spiritual realm daily as much as possible. Expecting the Supernatural One thing I’ve learned by studying the bible is that supernatural experiences happen to those that believe and live their lives in expectation. In my 71 years years of life, I’ve seen food multiplied, people healed, miracles in my finances, and much more. I hope you enjoyed this brief study of angels. There is probably a lot more we can learn and understand but just knowing they are here to help God and us is enough for me. Thanks for stopping by. My God bless and keep you!
