Mary Magdalene – What You Don’t Know

Today’s post is about Mary Magdalene, someone you may not know a lot about. However, there is more to this woman than most people think and it’s very exciting how she took part in the ministry of Jesus our savior. I hope these facts will help you see how ordinary people, even those who were sinners, can make a difference! Facts of Mary Magdalene You Should Know Mary was a Jewish woman and was sometimes referred to as Mary of Magdala. There is controversy over her past life before Jesus. Some scholars believe she was a prostitute, but I find no evidence of that. Others believe she was just a sinner that needed deliverance. It is a known fact that she had seven demons at one time. The bible, in Mark 16:9, simply states that Jesus had previously driven seven demons out of Mary. So at first Mary Magdalene was a sinner but once she repented she was a fervent follower of Jesus as you will see in this post. To some, she was known as the “sinful woman” and others as “the woman who anointed and washes Jesus feet”. The important thing to remember about this fact is that Jesus can use anyone, with any problems, at any time, if they are just willing. Mary Magdalene Is A Financial Supporter The story of Mary shows that she was a financial supporter of Jesus and His ministry. Some people say she was wealthy, but no one knows for sure how much money she had. To follow Jesus and the disciples everywhere and help with finances, I believe this fact is probably true. This great woman not only supported with her finances, but she was also a great help to Jesus and the disciples. The Greek word for disciple means “one learning or being taught”, while the word apostle means “one being sent out”. Mary Magdalene was an apostle to the apostles, which just blows my mind a bit. Most likely she was there helping when the 5,000 were fed with the two fish and five loaves of bread. Just imagine all the miracles she must have seen. How exciting this life she had chosen must have been for her! Facts That Set Mary Magdalene Apart From Everyone Else In The Bible Mary Magdalene is mentioned twelve times in the bible which is more than any of the apostles. She was the first one to see the empty tomb. She was the ONLY person to witness the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. All three events were witnessed by her and no one else. Even Mary, the mother of Jesus did not witness his resurrection Mary Magdalene left no writings of her experiences so we only have what others say about her. She was the first to preach (tell) the good news that Jesus Christ had risen! What Should We Learn From Mary Magdalene? Mary Magdalene was a woman who experienced many things that no one else had the privilege of. She not only loved Jesus, but the word also lets us know that Mary was favored by Jesus as well. It was a mutual admiration. Once Mary repented and turned from her evil ways she never went back, which is the way it should be for all Christians. The word repent means to turn and go the other way! Think of how wonderful it would be if we all turned away from sin and let God have total control over our lives. He could use us in so many ways! Mary not only gave herself totally to serving the ministry, but she also gave money freely. You can’t out-give God so why are many of us so afraid to let go of any of it? Be a giver and let God use you to help others and further the ministry of Jesus. Just because Jesus is not physically walking on this earth does not mean his ministry is not still ongoing. We have been commissioned to go and preach the gospel and teach people how they too can have everlasting life! Please feel free to leave comments on how God is using you to carry out that commission!
