Death, Janaza Prayer, Burial: What to do

1) Contact the Islamic Center in person and additionally via email, with name of the deceased

2) Islamic Center will contact the Funeral home (families may suggest as well), and arrange to wash the deceased


3) A janaza prayer will be conducted at the Funeral Home or the Masjid as the situation may dictate


4) Islamic Center will arrange for burying the deceased at the Evergreen Cemetery on Mt. Hope Rd. The Islamic Center does not charge for it's services. Funeral Homes charge anywhere from $5000 to $7000 and payment arrangements need to be made with them directly.

Please be aware that the State and City regulations are constantly changing as the pandemic situation develops and the following instructions may be impacted by any future changes.


All services are provided in accordance to the Quran and Sunnah.

Ans) Paradise Funeral Home takes care of the transportation.

Q5) How much does it cost for a funeral?
Ans) It is approx. $5000 or less. (Families in need of financial aid can reach out to the the Islamic center)

Q6) What is the washing/shrouding procedure for the deceased?
Ans) Islamic center organizes the washing of the deceased under the supervision of the Imam. We have male and female volunteers to assist based on the gender needs. The washing/shrouding procedure is conducted at the Funeral Home with proper health and safety precautions that includes use of gloves, masks, apron, shoe covers, etc. During the COVID-19 Pandemic, we will be following all state and county regulations as they are being developed.

Q7) Are families allowed to participate in the washing/shrouding procedure?
Ans) Families are allowed and encouraged to participate in the washing/shrouding procedure.

Q8) Where will the funeral prayers be held?
Ans) Funeral prayers are generally held at the Islamic center. However during COVID-19 Pandemic funeral prayers can be performed at the Paradise Funeral Home or Evergreen Cemetery as per the family wishes. Please be aware that as per the recent State and City regulations, no more than 50 people are allowed to gather for funerals. These instructions are fluid and may change as the regulations are updated.
Those who are unable to participate in the funeral prayers/services can always attend the cemetery later and perform prayers separately.

Q9) Will Islamic Center location be available for any services related to the funeral?
Ans) Currently the Islamic center is closed for funeral services.

​Q10) Does the Islamic Center provide the shroud (Kaffan)?
Ans) Yes, the Islamic center can provide the shroud. The families can also provide the shroud as they wish.
