- Know The Lord

"Let them boast in this alone: That they truly know me, and understand that I am the Lord of justice and of righteousness whose love is steadfast; and that I love to be this way." (Jeremiah 9:24 TLB)

The Bible tells us in First Samuel 3 that when God called Samuel, three times he ran to Eli thinking it was he who had called him; and we are told this happened because Samuel did not yet know Jehovah (v.7). In other words, one can serve God without truly knowing Him. God can be in our midst and yet we can't recognize Him. Isn't that what we did with Jesus? He was with His own, yet His own didn't acknowledge Him (John 1:10).

And ironically a lot of us are like this. One important thing we learn from Samuel's story is that God wants to know you and He wants you to know Him; however you must be ready to receive Him to know Him. He is talking to you even right now, but many are too loud to listen. That's what He wants- constant communion with Him.

In those days, it was a rarity to hear God speak, but today He speaks to us all the time. We just have to be willing to listen and converse; and it is our greatest honour to commune with the Almighty. So, what am I asking of you this morning? Like Samuel, speak to the LORD, "Yes, Lord, I'm listening." Be calm in His presence and you will hear Him clearly. The more you do this, the more you'd grow in the personal knowledge of God; and the more you grow in this knowledge, the more you exercise the same virtues that make Him God every day of your life.

"Do you want more and more of God’s kindness and peace? Then learn to know him better and better. For as you know him better, he will give you, through his great power, everything you need for living a truly good life: he even shares his own glory and his own goodness with us! And by that same mighty power he has given us all the other rich and wonderful blessings he promised; for instance, the promise to save us from the lust and rottenness all around us, and to give us his own character." (2 Peter 1:2-4 TLB)
