Artists of Yardley present ‘Student and Faculty Show’ in February – The Reporter

        TRENDING:
LOWER MAKEFIELD >> It is often said that a good teacher brings out the best in their students. The AOY Art Center in Lower Makefield will host a Student Invitational and Faculty Show to showcase the talent that has developed, and in some cases erupted, from its art classes.
AOY’s student stories are of new beginnings, of people who have discovered their artistic self, of people who found a passion after concluding a career.
The public is invited to see the show on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from 12 to 5 p.m. from Saturday, February 5 through Sunday, February 20. This is an in-person show only and, for everyone’s safety, AOY is providing timed-entry admission. Admission is free, but pre-registration is requested. Go to aoyarts.org to reserve your date and time. All persons will need to be masked inside the gallery.
AOY is proud to exhibit several works by students who continue their creative studies by returning back to classes. One such student is David Meadow who loves to paint a good story.
Honing his acrylic painting techniques for over three years at AOY, David paints narratives of people in interesting, often romantic, moody settings. Progressing in his knowledge of color mixing and paint application he recently has taken to exploring concepts of palette knife painting.
David enjoys the constructive feedback of his work by students and instructor, Jim Bongartz. His participation in the class, “Studio with Instruction/Intermediate-Advanced,” remains an asset, offering students inspiration while learning from his consistent approach and his willingness to engage in critique.
The exhibition will include felted jewelry and wearable art created by Doty Horn who takes the Handmade Felting class with Nelly Kouzmina. Stained glass works by new instructor David Hansel will be on display and also available for purchase.
The AOY Faculty are all teaching artists in their own right who opt to share their talents and training with the aspiring.
James Bongartz began his passion for art during formal childhood lessons at the Carnegie Institute and continued to pursue a BSEd from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania in art education. He has painted for more than 30 years, exhibiting in galleries and juried shows throughout Pennsylvania and New Jersey. His paintings are responses and interpretations from his own photography.
Teaching his students to master the use of color and brushwork as a form of processing imagery and evoking experiences are his current inspirations.
“Students genuinely want to get better. They all have their own goals in what they want to achieve,” James
explained. “We are delighted that AOY provides an environment where students can grow.”
He currently teaches “I’ve Never Painted Before in My Life” and “Studio with Instruction” and is also the education director at AOY.
AOY offers a wide variety of art classes and workshops for adults and youth throughout the program year, including online options. Class sessions run for 6 weeks. New classes are now forming for spring I which will start the week of February 28. Go to aoyarts.org for more information and to register.
The AOY Art Center is located on the Patterson Farm at 949 Mirror Lake Road in Yardley (Lower Makefield) 19067.
