Albuquerque gallery hosts last-minute market, collects holiday donations – KRQE News 13

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – An Albuquerque art gallery is giving people some last-minute options for their holiday shopping. About 50 local artisans and vendors set up at Casa de Cultura’s Last Minute Navidad Market downtown.

People could find jewelry, art, beauty products, and other handmade gifts. One artist stressed the importance of continuing to shop and support local through the pandemic. “This is a really good time to be supporting people who may have not gone back to work because businesses were closed,” said artist Amy Maestas.
Casa de Cultura also accepted donations for toys, blankets, and jackets.

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – Bernalillo County is rolling out a variety of different winter camps that will keep kids active and learning over the winter break. Bernalillo County community centers will be providing affordable winter break camps for children this holiday season.
At just $12 per day, the camps run from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. from Dec. 20 through Dec. 22 and Dec. 27 through Dec. 30. Children in grades K through 8th will get the opportunity to participate in fun activities and also go on field trips to locations such as Explora.
[1] UNM announces COVID vaccine requirement for events at The Pit Starting next week, Lobo fans will have to bring either proof of vaccination or a negative COVID test to get inside The Pit for games. With cases once again surging and the threat of the omicron variant, UNM Athletics is tightening up its protocols to protect student-athletes and fans. Starting on Dec. 28th, all fans 12 and older have to prove they are fully vaccinated which means two shots of Pfizer or Moderna or one shot of the Johnson & Johnson. The alternative is a negative COVID test taken within 72 hours of the event. UNM says this new policy will be in effect until at least the end of January.
[2] Albuquerque Police to crack down on off-highway vehicles on city streets APD says it’s cracking down on off-road vehicles on city streets after last week’s deadly hit-and-run. There has been a community outcry since that driver blew through a red light, hitting Pronoy Bhattacharya and seriously injuring his father when they left the River of Lights. Officers say those vehicles are not allowed on paved roads in Albuquerque and Bernalillo County. APD says they will bring in the Open Space Department and air support units to help catch people breaking the law.
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – Police say a woman who was apprehended just last week for allegedly vandalizing the Main Police Station has been arrested again on Tuesday for the same crime. The Albuquerque Police Department reports that around midnight on Tuesday, Dec. 21, officers were dispatched to the Main Police Station regarding a vandalism in progress.
Police state that overnight personnel inside the building advised authorities that a female was outside, spray painting vulgar and indecent statements on the southern side of the building including on the walls, stairs, planters, benches, and glass doors. Officers at the scene reportedly recognized and identified the woman as 45-year-old Jennifer Otte who was seen actively vandalizing the exterior of the building with spray paint while officers were initially contacting her.
