Scarecrow Contest
Barnstable Recreation challenges families to build their own scarecrow between Oct. 24 and Oct. 31, then post a photo of their creation on the department’s Facebook page @BarnstableRec. Prizes will be awarded for the most creative. Winners will be announced on Monday, Nov. 1.
Trunk-or-Treat!
Join the YMCA Cape Cod for some Halloween fun at a Trunk-or-Treat on Friday, Oct. 29 from 5 to 7 p.m. This is a free event open to all members of the community. Decorated trunks will compete for prizes. Register your trunk to save your space by calling 774-212-7660 or email [email protected].
Individuals, businesses and organizations are invited for family-friendly fun with games, crafts and prizes. Bring carved, painted and decorated pumpkins to display in the YMCA lobby now through Oct. 28, and staff members will vote for their favorites. Winners will be announced at the Trunk or Treat.
Osterville Halloween Parade
The Osterville Village Library and the Rotary Club of Osterville present the village’s annual Halloween Parade on Saturday, Oct. 30, starting at 4 p.m. Meet on the sidewalk by the village flagpole and walk to the library for treats and a movie on a giant outdoor screen.
Trick-or-Treat!
Hyannis Main Street merchants plan to host trick-or-treating on Halloween night. The road will be closed to vehicles from 4 to 6 p.m. as creepy crawlies walk the street. Kids are invited to enjoy treats from local businesses. Adjourn to the old jail in Barnstable Village if you dare!
Rooster Crows Fair
The West Parish of Barnstable, United Church of Christ, also known as “The Rooster Church,” will host the annual Rooster Crows Fair for holiday gifts and decorations on Saturday, Nov. 20, 2021 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tables will be found spread throughout the grounds, in the Jenkins Hall, and the 1717 Meetinghouse at 2049 Meetinghouse Way, West Barnstable.  This year’s fair continues long standing traditions of offering baked goods, Christmas decorations and greens, homemade fudge, handmade woodworking items, vintage and precious jewelry, and hand knitted items.  New this year will be the “Meetinghouse Mercantile” with treasures of all kinds. Hot coffee, cider and donuts will be for sale to keep fairgoers toasty and energized. All proceeds benefit the mission and outreach of West Parish of Barnstable.
Toys for Tots
The Barnstable Police Department at Route 132 and Phinney’s Way invites donations to the annual the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program, whose mission is to collect new, unwrapped toys during October, November and December, and distribute them as Christmas gifts to needy children in the community.
In 2020, the toy drive collected 42,362 toys that were shared among 19,980 Cape children.
“Over 97% of your donations goes to our mission of providing toys, books, and other gifts to less fortunate children. Less than 3% is spent on fundraising and overhead,” said Coordinator Timothy Harrington.
