The materialism of spirituality

Chogyam Trungpa in his book Cutting With Spiritual Materialism composed that there are three ‘Lords of Materialism’– physical, psychological, and also spiritual. In each instance, the Lord is an impression. The impression being that properties, a means of understanding, or a belief system can, by any means, bring lasting happiness.

Spiritual materialism is specifically perilous, because it’s quite usual to believe that devoting oneself to a set of spiritual concepts, or to a certain spiritual understanding, ‘ought to’ lead somewhere.

Myth: Spiritual Materialism has to do with getting something– some reward

I got on Facebook today, and saw a graphic go by. It reviewed, “I am Buddhist. I am pleased to state that. LIKE if you concur– and SHARE if you boast of it!” I almost did. However after that I reduced, and also asked myself, “Exactly what’s going on inside me concerning this?” I became aware that my reason for ‘clicking’ would be for getting attention. There was no other factor I can come up with. I remembered that my technique, in and of itself, is enough.

My other half Darbella as well as I educated meditation to injured workers. They too needed to know why we believed reflection, yoga, Qi Gong, as well as Zen living would assist with their discomfort. A few of the workers did the workouts, and also low as well as behold, their discomfort levels were decreased. Or, maybe, their interest had actually shifted off of 24/7 focus on their discomfort. So, that’s a ‘benefit’, right? They obtained something for their initiatives, right?

Yes and no.
