Aromatherapy #1: Morning & Night Meditation Blend Recipes

I have always been fascinated with Aromatherapy and try to incorporate it into my daily life as supportive health aids. I use aromatherapy as an alternative to incense, which gives me headaches and sinusitis. Aromatic or essential oils are a great natural supports for general well-being and to be used in conjunction with other alternate healing or Mind-Body medicine based on psychoneuroimmunology (PNI). Learning how to use even just a few of these plant derivatives can become an indispensable part of a more sustainable lifestyle.

Here I provide two of my personal recipes for meditation blends. One is a night-time Meditation Blend, which also assists with sleep. The other is a morning meditation blend to wake-up the body and refresh the mind.

Aromatherapy Night-time Meditation Blend & Sleep Aid

  • 5 drops of Sandalwood
  • 10 drops of Lavender
  • 15 drops of Chamomile
  • 30 ml of carrier oil

Aromatherapy Morning Meditation Blend & Mind Aid

  • 5 drops of Juniper
  • 15 drops of Grapefruit
  • 30 ml of carrier oil

Add to 30 ml of carrier oil, such as sweet almond or grapeseed oil. You can play around with the amounts to your personal aromatic liking, but as a general rule do not exceed 30 drops of essential oil per 30 ml of carrier. Grapeseed oil is lighter than sweet almond oil, but can be a bit more expensive than sweet almond oil. You can apply a few drops of the blend to your anywhere on your skin (I rub it into my hands) or you can place a few drops on a swab of cotton in a ceramic or glass dish to fill the immediate surrounding space with the aroma.

Both blends contain essential oils that aid in the relief of stiff and sore joint or muscles. Thus the blends can be rubbed on those affected areas. They are especially effective for the neck, shoulder and joint areas.

Please see my Meditation Infographic #4: Aromatherapy Essential Oils for more information on how to use aromatherapy oils as part of your meditative practice.
