How to enable or disable Hibernate Option in Windows 10

Hibernation is a state in which the Windows PC saves the current state and shuts itself down so that it no longer needs power. When the PC is turned on again, all open files and programs are restored to the same state as they were before hibernation. Windows 10 by default does not include the Hibernate Option under the power menu.

If you’re a fan of hibernating your computer, you’ve likely noticed that neither Windows 8 or Windows 10 offer hibernate as a default power menu option. Don’t worry
there’s an easy way to enable it. Here’s how to make Windows show Hibernate alongside Shut Down in Power menu.

How to configure Hibernate in Windows 10

To enable Hibernate in Windows 10, type: power options into the Search box and hit Enter, or select the result from the top.

On Power option window select choose what the power buttons do on left pane.

Now on system setting window select Change settings that are currently unavailable.

Now check the box in front of Hibernate – Show in Power menu under Shutdown settings.

Finally click on Save settings and you will now find the Hibernate option under the Power menu on Start

Enable Hibernate option Using CMD

In Windows 10, you can right-click on the Start button and choose Command Prompt (Admin) from the menu that appears.

Type powercfg –h on and press Return.

You won’t see any confirmation of success, but you should see an error if it doesn’t work for any reason. PCs equipped with ‘InstantGo’ don’t have hibernation, for example, so you can’t enable or disable it.

Now when you select the power options menu you’ll see the power configuration entry you crave: “Hibernate”. Give it a click and Windows will save the memory to your hard disk, shut down completely, and wait for you to return to exactly where you left off.

Enable / Disable Using Registry Edit:

Press the Windows + R keys to open the Run dialog, type regedit, and click/tap on OK.

In regedit, navigate to the location below.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Power

In the right pane of the Power key, double click/tap on HibernateEnabled,

Type in 1, in the DWORD To Enable Hibernate option and click/tap on OK.
Restart windows to changes take effect.

change the value 0 to Disable the Hibernate option.
