Display A legal notices or Custom Message on Windows 10 Login Screen

Adding contact info to your device's Login or lock screen is a good way to help your lost stuff find its way back to you.

This Post We Will discuss How to create a custom message that’s displayed before anyone can sign in to your Windows 10 laptop/desktop/tablet. One of many reasons you may want to do this is so that you can include information about how to return your laptop or tablet if it’s lost or stolen.

 Display Custom Login Screen Message

To do this press “Win+R” to open run window, type “regedit” and hit Enter to open Windows registry editor.

Now navigate to the following path:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/Microsoft/Windows/Current Version/Policies/System.

Find the value named legalnoticecaption and right-click on it, then select modify.

A new Edit String box will appear. Under the value data field enter the message title that you want to display on Windows login or lock screen.
Now find another value name legalnoticetext and right-click on it, then modify. In the new box Value data filed enter your custom message and click OK.

Now, reboot you computer to see the login message.

Using Windows Local Security Policy Editor

Note local policy not support home edition support up to pro editions.

On Start Menu Type Administrative tools and open it.

Once the administrative tools window has been opened, double-click on the shortcut “Local Security Policy.”

If your edition has the Group Policy Editor, you can also do so by navigating to the following folder:

Configuration\Windows Settings \Security Settings\Local Policies\Security Options

Here you will see two entries:

Interactive logon: Message title for Users Attempting to log on. This security setting allows the specification of a title to appear in the title bar of the window that contains the Interactive logon: Message text for users attempting to log on.

Interactive logon: Message text for users attempting to log on. This security setting specifies a text message that is displayed to users when they log on. This text is often used for legal reasons, for example, this laptop belongs to xyz person kindly contact [email protected] and return this.

Double-click on each of them and in the window which opens, enter the title or the text, as the case may be. Click Apply/OK/Exit.

Your Windows computer will display the start-up message, every time you turn it on.
