How to Create robots.txt and Upload

Don’t you know how to create robots.txt and upload? Well, in this post, you are going to read about the same. In this crowded blogging arena, you know that it is significant to stay on top of SERPs. You have indexed pages and authority of your blog to stay on top (I know, tons of other things are out there that determine your position in Search engine result pages).

But it is important to keep some directories and files away from Search Engines I would say. For example, you have a PDF file on your server that you send your subscribers as a reward. What if the search engines show them on search results? It will badly affect your email list growth. That’s why you should have a robots.txt file on your server to indicate search engines that what not to index.

Create robots.txt  and Upload

So, I am going to show here that how to create robots.txt and uplaod the same to your servers so that some of youre pages stay safe from search engine’s hawk eyes. Sometimes, it is good to avoid your images folder from indexing because there will be a chance that your images may be stolen.

Follow the steps given below to create robots.txt and upload.

Step 1: At first, you need to open a text editor. You can use any one of your choice as it never matters to the thing that we are going to do. I usually use Notepad++ or the simple default Notepad from the Windows.

Step 2: Now, copy and paste the following code into the white field dedicated to insert the text.

User-Agent: *
Disallow: /wp-content/plugins/

Step 3: Press Ctrl+ S simultaneously or go to File and from the following menu click on Save.

Step 4: Choose any of the location (You must remember it) and click Save again to complete the saving process. Don’t forget to make sure that the file name is robots.txt. In Notepad++, you can change the file extension as well. So never do it. Just save the file as clean text with .txt extension and robots as name.

Step 5: Open your website’s file manager or an FTP utility to upload the file into your root directory. Don’t alter the file if you want eveything to be indexed except the plugin folder.

As I did for the plugins folder, you can deindex any directory by changing the location details.

Note: This is for WP blogs.
