If you own a Windows Computer and if you are looking for a way to monitor your computer’s log in activity then you can do it by following the tutorial given here. On all professional editions of Windows (Windows 7, Windows 8 and Windows 10), they are offering “Event Log” for tracking the log in activity of your computer.

Just by enabling the Log on events, you can easily track who is logging into your computer (you can track the Windows username) and when the log on activity has happened. You can also find out when the user has logged off by following the tutorial given here.

Note: This method will work only on the professional editions of Windows operating system. If you are using Home Edition or any other edition, the following tutorial will not work.

Tutorial To Check When & Who Logged Into Windows:

1) To get started, open the “Run” window in your computer by pressing the Windows and “R” buttons in your keyboard. Next, enter “gpedit.msc” in the Run window and click “Ok” to open up the “Local Group Policy Editor“.

2) Now, navigate to “Audit Policy” folder by following this path: Local Computer Policy –> Computer Configuration –> Windows Settings –> Security Settings –> Local Policies –> Audit Policy.

3) Next, double-click on “Audit Logon Events” to open its properties. Now, in the properties window, tick the boxes next to “Success” to log the successful windows logons. You can also tick the box next to “Failure” to log the failed login attempts.

4) Now, open up “Event Viewer” in your computer by following this path: Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Event Viewer.

5) In the “Event Viewer” window, navigate to Security Logs by following this path: Event Viewer -> Windows Logs -> Security.

6) Now to find out the successful logon events, look for “4624” event ID as it represents successful login events.

7) To find out the username and other details of the successful login event, just double-click on the event to open up its properties.

That’s it. Now, you can track the login time of all the users in your Windows computer.
