How To Install Plugins In WordPress?

WordPress is a free and open source Content Management system (CMS), which can be installed on a web server. After Installing WordPress, the first step most beginners would want to learn is “how to Install plugins in WordPress”.

WordPress Plugins are the tools that provide additional functionalities to WordPress. Every self-hosted WordPress blogger should know how to install WordPress Plugins. If you don’t know how to do that, then you can learn about the product to install WordPress plugins here. WordPress Plugin Installation can be done in three different ways.

1. Install Plugins using WordPress Plugin Search (Search and Install)
2. Install Plugins using wp-admin Plugin Upload (Upload and Install)
3. Install WordPress Plugins manually by using FTP

Install Plugins using WordPress Plugin Search (Search and Install)

Search, Find and Installing the plugin is one of the best and easiest ways to install WordPress plugin. If you know the plugin name, you can find the plugin directly by using the search option under “WordPress” dashboard.

Step 1: Go to WordPress admin area. Click Plugins → Add New

Step 2: Once you hit Add New, you can see a search box for plugins. Here, you can search for any plugin just by typing the name of the plugin. Now, you can choose the plugin that is compatible for your website.

Step 3: After finding the plugin, click on Install now. Now your plugin has been installed.

Step 4: In order to activate your plugin, Click on activate. Once you do that, your plugin will be activated.

Install Plugins using WP-admin Plugin (Upload and Install)

Paid WordPress Plugins will not show up in the free plugins directory and it cannot be installed using the search and install method. For installing paid plugins, you will have to use the upload and install method. Here I am going to explain the procedure on how to install WordPress plugins using upload method.

Step 1: You should download the required plugins from its source. The file should be in a zip format.

Step 2: Then you should go to WordPress admin area and click on Plugins → Add New

Step 3: Now, click on upload plugin option. Next, plugin file from the computer for upload.

Step 4: Once you have uploaded, click on install now. Now your plugin has been installed.

Step 5: In order to activate your plugin, Click on activate. Now your plugin is activated successfully.

Install WordPress Plugins manually by using FTP

Sometimes your WordPress hosting provider limits your ability to install plugin from the admin area. In such scenario, you will have to install plugins manually by using the FTP method. In this method, you can upload plugins manually using FTP software such as FileZilla or Cyberduck.

Step 1: Initially, download the source file of your desired plugin (it should be in zip file) and extract it a folder in your computer.

Step 2: Next, you will need to upload the folder and its files manually to your website using FTP Client.

Step 3: To do that, open up FileZilla and enter your FTP username and Password.

Step 4: Now, go to this path /wp-content/plugins/ and upload the folder from Step 2.

Step 5: Once all the files have been uploaded, you must visit admin area of WordPress and Click on Plugins. There you will the plugin installed. Click on Activate link and activate the plugin.
