How to Delete all Comments in WordPress?

Are you worrying about spam comments on WordPress? Using Akismet Wordpress plugin is the best idea to prevent your WordPress blog or website from spam comments. Most of the spam comments are blocked by Akismet but still you will receive some spam comments. If the spam comment count is less then you can delete it easily but if the count is 1000, 2000 or 5000, what will you do?

In this article, I will show you the different ways to delete all comments in WordPress.

First, you need to backup your blog. Because deleting comments in WordPress blog is an irreversible action. You can’t retrieve all comments once you delete.

Method 1: Deleting WordPress Comments Using Plugin

Step 1: Download, install and activate Delete All comments plugin.

Step 2: After activating the plugin, visit Setting→Comment Manager. This is a place where you can see pending, trash and spam comments.

Step 3: Click Delete All Comments button. By this process you can delete all the comments (including comments in trash and spam) in your WordPress website.

Now you have successfully removed comments on your WordPress blog.

Method 2: Delete WordPress Comments Using phpMyAdmin

Deleting Wordpress Comments using phpMyAdmin is only recommended for advanced users. If you are a new website builder or blogger, don’t try this method. This is an easy and quick way to delete all WordPress comments. Let’s see!

Step 1: Login to your website cPanel with username and password. www.yoursitename.com/cpanel or www.yoursitename.com:2082

Step 2: Click phpMyAdmin. You can find it under Database.

Step 3: If you have created many databases for your website all of them will show up here. Locate the one that has your WordPress website.

Step 4: Check the box “wp_commentmeta” and “wp_comments”. Locate the “With selected” and select “Empty” from the drop down menu.

Step 5: phpMyadmin will show you warning box asking whether you really want to perform this action.

Step 6: Click “Yes”. Now you have successfully deleted all comments on your WordPress website.

Method 3: Delete all WordPress comments using MySQL

You can also delete the WordPress comments using MySQL. By this method, you can delete all comments within a minute.

Login to MySQL console and enter the command given below.

TRUNCATE `wp_commentmeta`;
TRUNCATE `wp_comments`;

That’s it. Now you have successfully deleted all the comments on your WordPress blog or website.
