Simple Things To Be A Great Remote Manager

All It Takes Is 3 Simple Things To Be A Great Remote Manager

A few months back, working remotely was thought to be a luxury, and now it has become a necessity. This sudden shift to Remote work has baffled managers from all over the world, leaving them and their teams wondering how they are supposed to master the art of remote work. In fact, I’ve seen some fantastic leaders who were so effective as a manager in-house, but have poorly failed at handling this sudden shift.

This is why I’ve decided to share some simple, actionable tips to all the managers out there who are seeking advice on how to make remote work work for their team. Here it goes:

Create A Remote Work Strategy (And Stick To It)

Rome was not built in a day.

Remember, the teams and managers who have successfully adapted to remote working had been practicing it for a while, either partially or completely. Don’t be too harsh on yourself. Don’t expect you to master managing a remote team in one day or one week, for that matter. Just like everyone in the group, you are also learning.

“Streamline the way you manage your remote teams and work. Start using ProofHub.”

And, the first step in this learning process has to be creating a remote work strategy. This strategy is going to involve:

  1. Task management process
  2. Communication process
  3. Review process
  4. Reporting process

Clearly define all these processes, document them, and share them at a central place for anyone in your team to access.

For instance, you can create custom workflows online for your team to define how tasks will be carried out from one stage to another. Everyone can see them clearly moving and stay on the right track.

In a similar way, you need to specify tools/channels for communication so that everyone in the team knows how to collaborate with each and share information.

Remember — you need to clearly define all these processes and make sure that everyone understands them and follows them (communication is going to be the key).

Embrace, Adapt and Evolve

The ability to embrace change is one of the most important traits for becoming a great manager. Once you have a mindset to embrace change, you will find a way to master it.

This is the reason I always stress on the mental aspect of adaptability more than the physical one. Think of change as a learning experience, and instead of focusing on the negative emotions, look at the positive side. Once you are mentally prepared to accept this change, you will easily adapt and evolve.

Remember — the mental aspect is always way more important than anything else when we talk about embracing change.

Use Technology To Maximum Effect

As highlighted in the first point, defining processes is of utmost importance for a manager to become great at remote work. And, the one thing that is going to help you achieve this feat is technology.

“Are you looking for a better way to manage your remote teams? Stop relying on emails and Switch to ProofHub.”

Take ProofHub, for example. We have built this online project Management and team collaboration software in such a way that it simplifies for project managers to stay in ultimate control of their teams, tasks, projects, and communications — no matter where they are. In fact, thousands of teams are already using ProofHub to manage their work during this lockdown.

You can use such project management software to simplify your task management, team communication, feedback sharing process, reporting, communication, and efficiently managing your teams and your work remotely.

All the best!
