Customer facing apps are quite popular but the real differentiators are the apps that are used within the Enterprise targeting the employees. These employee facing applications can improve processes and make their jobs easier but for that to happen we need to look at apps in a different light altogether.

We normally look at applications as comprehensive feature boxes which deliver services within a particular domain be it HR, IT or Supply Chain. Employees access these applications on their desktops and can leave them open and utilize them as and when required. Porting these applications with their full functionality on the Mobile isn’t the best way to go ahead rather only a few mobile use cases which are required should be mobilized.

The idea is to not to focus our intent on applications but rather few key tasks which can be achieved through the mobile device. Something which is easier to load, work with and an employee can easily and quickly access and edit. Therefore before the enterprise IT starts thinking of adopting mobility they need to make sure that they take into consideration the possible mobile use cases that exist within the enterprise. It could be a point of sale utility that would allow salesmen to log in a sales receipt, allow executives to access specific information from CRM, HR or an order management system.
The enterprise IT should look at it as a portal application which offers quick snippets of information from different systems, contextual info aggregated at one place without revealing all the complexities of the applications it is sourcing from.

The best part is these mobile tasks or processes can be built iteratively one at a time hence making the entire process of mobilization inexpensive. Also since these tasks are easy to use, easy to load resulting in faster processing and making it easier for the employees to access them on their mobile.
