Unity5: Best Small Business Tech Employer

The Unity5 team is celebrating today after winning the Best Small Business Tech Employer in the Women in Tech Employer Awards 2023

Last night was the highlight of the 2023 The Women in Tech Employer Awards. These awards celebrate employers and individuals who go above and beyond to help close the gender gap within the technology sector.

At the event, held at The Royal Lancaster Hotel in London, Unity5 was awarded the Best Small Business Tech Employer.

“The judges were impressed with Unity5’s commitment to offering training to their female employees to help advance them in their careers. They were also inspired by their adapted recruitment processes which helped to eliminate unconscious bias and keep a fair interview process. A well-deserved award.”

Women in Tech Employer Awards

Unity5 believes that it is just as vital to strike the right gender balance in its own workforce as it is across all technology-based businesses. Unity5 not only supports the women that it employs but also proactively encourages its female employees to progress professionally.

Unity5’s ethos is to take raw talent and nurture, support and empower its female employees to reach their full potential. Retention of female employees within Unity5 Five is also a point of enormous pride.

In the past year, Unity5 has recruited several women into its team in operational, management and developer roles, including Hannah Fuller, who joined the team as Head of Strategic Relationships. Hannah co-founded the British Parking Association’s Women in Parking Group which promotes the fundamental value and importance of women in the traditionally male-dominated parking industry.

Hannah said:

“One of the influential factors for me when joining Unity5 was their equitable approach to recruitment and belief in personal development and progression so I’m really delighted that the work that we do has been recognized with this award.”

Recognising talent and offering support through training

There have been several promotions and many courses undertaken by the women on the team including, ISO 9001 training, Mental Health Awareness training, Procurement Services, Technical Writing, GDPR & Data Protection, Advanced Software and a CIPD Level 5.

Unity5 strives to ensure that all the women on the team are given opportunities to broaden their skill sets and advance their careers.

More than half (57%) of Unity5’s female team have completed, or are in the process of, completing additional courses to upskill and enhance their daily roles and to support their individual progression goals.

Leah Pavey, our Recruitment and Engagement Manager, has been highly successful in recruiting new team members, progressing the benefits employees receive and the friendly, supportive culture of our business.

Leah Said:

“This award is such a big deal to me! I am immensely proud to work for an organisation who takes their people seriously, and this award showcases Unity5’s commitment to closing the gender gap in the technology sector. Unity5 has created a culture of inclusion and equality and is genuinely invested in the development of their employees.

My journey with Unity5 has been nothing but positive. I have full autonomy in my role and have been able to use my own recruitment knowledge, experience and creativity in creating a recruitment process which supports our culture and values.

Unity5 has also been instrumental in the growth of my career, by not only providing great mentors, but by allowing me to study for professional certification.”

Celina Herbert, Director of Operations, has pioneered the recruitment and professional development of women at Unity5 since the company’s inception.

Celina said:

“I am very proud of the team, we work so hard to ensure everyone has equal career development opportunities and this ethos is embraced by the whole workforce. It is amazing to see that hard work recognised.”

Of course, we’re honoured to have been recognised with this award alongside other tech sector organisations also doing great work to close the gender gap. We’re very pleased to have gained this award alongside such great company that includes HM Revenue & Customs,  Experian, IntentHQ, Department for Work & Pensions (DWP), and M&G PLC. We must say “thank you” to the judges for recognising our efforts in supporting the career progression of our female colleagues. Thanks must also go to Synthace.com for sponsoring this award.
