Income Tax Search at Lenovo Offices for Tax Evasion Probe

On Wednesday, the Income Tax department conducted a raid at the Bengaluru office of Lenovo, the Chinese IT hardware manufacturer, as part of an investigation into tax evasion, reported PTI. As per a Reuters report, the Income Tax department also visited Lenovo Puducherry as part of the inquiry. Lenovo has acknowledged the visit by the Income Tax department and stated that it is “cooperating with the authorities and will provide all possible support required.”

Possible Detection of Earthquakes using Android Phones

Google has introduced a new alert system for earthquakes for Android users in India. This system utilizes the built-in sensors, such as the accelerometer, in Android smartphones to detect earthquake activity and issue timely warnings. The Android Earthquake Alerts System, which is already operational in multiple countries worldwide, has been launched in India in collaboration with the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) and the National Seismology Center (NSC).

On Wednesday, German electronics brand Blaupunkt unveiled two affordable Google TVs in India, featuring a 43-inch QLED display and a 55-inch 4K display. The 43-inch TV is priced at Rs 28,999, while the 55-inch model is priced at Rs 34,999. Interested buyers can purchase these models from the e-commerce website Flipkart.

According to Blaupunkt, the 43-inch QLED TV offers a spectacular QLED 4K display with HDR10+ and Dolby Vision support, showcasing 1.1 billion colors. It also boasts an elegant black design with Dolby-certified audio that includes Dolby Atmos and Dolby Digital Plus. The TV provides access to over 1000 apps via built-in Chromecast and Airplay. With DTS TruSurround sound, a 50-watt speaker, flexible sound modes, and various connectivity options, this TV promises an immersive and personalized viewing experience.

Panos Panay Appointed as Head of Amazon Devices

After serving at Microsoft for over 19 years, Panos Panay is joining Amazon to lead its Devices & Services business (D&S). This announcement was made by Amazon CEO Andy Jassy on Wednesday. At Microsoft, Panay held the position of product head, and his most recent role was Executive Vice President and Chief Product Officer, overseeing the Windows and Devices division. Panay will take over from Dave Limp, the outgoing hardware lead at Amazon. Limp’s responsibilities included the development of Amazon’s consumer devices like Fire TV, Echo, Kindle, and the Alexa voice assistant.

According to a report by TechCrunch, users will soon have the ability to delete their Threads accounts without deleting their Instagram accounts. The absence of this feature, which allows users to delete Threads without affecting their Instagram accounts, had drawn criticism towards Meta, the parent company of Instagram. Threads, which was designed as a rival to Twitter (previously known as X), experienced an initial surge in popularity and reached 100 million users within five days of its launch. However, the app couldn’t sustain its momentum, and reports in August indicated that it lost 75 percent of its Android followers. Currently, Threads is struggling to retain its user base.
