Google Pixel 8 Pro-Hands-on Images Suggest Matte Glass Finish on Rear Panel

The forthcoming ‘Made by Google’ event will feature the unveiling of Google’s Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro smartphones on October 4. As we approach the launch of these new Pixel phones, alleged hands-on images of the Pixel 8 Pro have emerged online. The most recent leak showcases a black variant of the Pixel 8 Pro. It is depicted with slim bezels surrounding the screen and a hole-punch cutout positioned in the middle of the display for the front-facing camera. These images suggest that the handset will have a matte glass finish and a triple rear camera module.

LEAKs Viet Nam, a Vietnamese user, shared images of the dummy units of the Pixel 8 Pro on Facebook. The images display the front and back of the device and indicate a design language similar to last year’s Pixel 7 Pro. However, this version is presented in a black hue with narrow bezels around the display. The screen appears to have a centrally placed hole-punch cutout for the selfie camera.

The renders also suggest that the Pixel 8 Pro will feature a matte finish on the rear panel. This would be a departure from the design of the Pixel 7 Pro. In the past, Google has used glossy glass finishes for the Pixel 6 series and Pixel 7 series. Additionally, the renders indicate a triple camera setup at the back, arranged in a pill-shaped cutout within the camera bar. The horizontally oriented camera island also includes the flash and thermometer sensor.

This isn’t the first instance of live images of the Pixel 8 Pro being leaked. Back in July, live shots of the device surfaced online, revealing design details and the codename “husky”. Google has also officially showcased the design of the Pixel 8 Pro.

The launch event for the Pixel 8 series will take place on October 4 in New York at 10:00am local time (7:30pm IST). The Pixel Watch 2 and a new color option for the Pixel Buds Pro are also expected to be unveiled at the ‘Made by Google’ event. Pre-orders for the upcoming handsets will begin on Flipkart in India from October 5.

The new iterations of the Pixel smartphones are anticipated to come pre-installed with Android 14. The standard Pixel 8 is rumored to sport a 6.17-inch full-HD+ OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate, while the pro model is said to boast a 6.71-inch LTPO OLED screen with QHD resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. They are expected to be powered by the new Tensor G3 SoC. The devices are rumored to be available in two RAM configurations, 8GB and 12GB, and two storage options, 128GB and 256GB RAM. The Pixel 8 Pro is expected to house a 4,950mAh battery with support for 27W wired fast charging. Meanwhile, the Pixel 8 may come with a 4,485mAh battery with support for 24W wired charging and 12W wireless charging.

At Google I/O 2023, the search giant emphasized its commitment to AI, unveiled its first foldable phone, and introduced a Pixel-branded tablet. This year, the company plans to enhance its apps, services, and Android operating system with AI technology. We delve into this topic and more on Orbital, the Gadgets 360 podcast.
