iPhone 15 Pro Max Ranks Second on DxOMark’s Camera test

The iPhone 15 Pro Max, the premier smartphone in the iPhone 15 lineup, has achieved the second position in DxOMark’s camera evaluation. The smartphone was launched alongside the base model iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, and iPhone 15 Pro during the Apple Wonderlust event on September 12. The device was rated on several aspects including photography, videography, zoom capabilities, preview, and bokeh features.

Based on the DxOMark evaluation, the 15 Pro Max earned a score of 154 points, placing it second, just following behind the Huawei P60 Pro which obtained a score of 156 points. The photos taken with the iPhone 15 Pro Max exhibit excellent brightness and contrast when viewed on an HDR-enabled display.

The evaluation concluded that the cameras on the iPhone 15 Pro Max also provide nearly accurate exposure, natural color reproduction, and skin tone rendering, along with fast and precise autofocus. The device is also reported to have reliable video stabilization.

DxOMark notes that while the new zoom features on the flagship iPhone 15 model are generally effective, they lack consistency “across all ranges.” It also mentioned that the device falls short in reducing “undesirable artifacts such as flare, ghosting, and aliasing,” as well as handling disturbances in low-light photography.

In the previous evaluation, the iPhone 14 Pro Max secured the ninth spot. The newly released iPhone 15 Pro Max is equipped with a 48-megapixel wide-angle camera, a 12-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera, a 12-megapixel 3x telephoto camera, and a 12-megapixel periscope camera that offers up to 5x optical zoom performance.

The triple rear camera setup of the iPhone 14 Pro Max includes a 48-megapixel sensor with a wide-angle lens featuring optical image stabilization (OIS), a 12-megapixel ultra-wide sensor, and a 12-megapixel telephoto sensor with a periscope lens. The front camera houses a 12-megapixel TrueDepth sensor.

The iPhone 15 Pro Max ranks just below the Huawei P60 Pro, which comes with a 48-megapixel main sensor with OIS, a 13-megapixel ultra-wide camera, and another 48-megapixel telephoto camera with 3.5x optical zoom and up to 100x digital zoom. The rear cameras are accompanied by an LED flash, and the front camera has a 13-megapixel sensor.

Featuring a 6.7-inch Super Retina XDR OLED display, the iPhone 15 Pro Max is constructed with Apple’s Ceramic Shield material. It is powered by the A17 Pro chipset based on 3nm technology and boasts an IP68 rating for dust and water resistance. The phone claims to provide a battery life of up to 29 hours, equivalent to its predecessor, the iPhone 14 Pro Max. The base 256GB storage variant starts at Rs. 1,59,900 in India.
