Panay Panos Join Amazon Devices Dave Limp Microsoft

Amazon CEO, Andy Jassy, announced on Wednesday that Panay Panos, who had spent over 19 years at Microsoft, will now be leading the Devices & Services business (D&S) at Amazon. Panos was previously the product head at Microsoft and held the role of EVP and Chief Product Officer, overseeing the Windows and Devices division at the company. He will take over the position from Dave Limp, who is departing from Amazon. Limp is responsible for the development of Amazon’s consumer devices including Fire TV, Echo, Kindle, and the Alexa voice assistant.

As previously reported, Limp will remain in his role for the next few months. He has previously stated that he is leaving because he is “less optimistic about the devices and services business” at Amazon.

“Panos will start in October, and Dave Limp will assist him in the transitional period over the next few months. I am highly enthusiastic about the ongoing innovations and business ventures in D&S, and I am excited to collaborate with Panos,” Jassy wrote in a note.

Panos made the decision to leave Microsoft earlier this month after almost two decades with the company.

“I have known Panos for years, and I believe he will greatly contribute to our organization’s future. He is an enthusiastic leader in product development, and I am eager to witness the brilliant inventions you will create together. Over the next two months, I will work closely with him to ensure a smooth transition during our fall launches and our OP1 planning,” wrote Limp.

Meanwhile, Limp will be leaving Amazon to assume the role of CEO at Jeff Bezos’ space company, Blue Origin.

This development comes at a time when Amazon’s device division has been facing challenges in generating revenue and has experienced significant layoffs across the company.

Limp’s retirement marks a significant departure, considering he had been with Amazon for over 13 years, and it will be a major transition since Jassy took over as CEO in 2021. Several top executives have left the company in the last two years. Last month, Limp and Jassy made the announcement together in a note to Amazon employees.
