New Entrant Safety Audit? We Can Help!

We often get phone calls from desperate Carriers, days before their New Entrant Safety Audit, begging for help.  Many are completely unaware of the record-keeping responsibilities they agreed to when signing up for a new USDOT number.  With the assistance of our compliance software platform – these carriers can quickly organize their records, consolidate their maintenance logs and corporate filings, and prepare for a DOT Officer to perform their audit.

What This Means For You

All new entrants will be audited within their first 12 months of operating as a Motor Carrier.  This audit will take place at your principal place of business (as listed in your USDOT Application) and will be performed by a certified US Federal safety investigator, and state or provincial enforcement officer.  Upon passing your New Entrant Safety Audit, the FMCSA will grant you permanent authority.

You may recall that during the US-DOT application process, you committed to:

  • Operate Safely
  • Maintain up-to-date records
  • Conduct periodic inspections and perform maintenance on your vehicles
  • Pass the Safety Audit

Automatic Failures of a NESA

  • Failure to implement a random controlled substance and/or alcohol testing program
  • Knowingly using a disqualified driver
  • Using a commercial motor vehicle that is not periodically inspected

Consequences of Failing the NESA

Have you implemented a file and record-keeping system to organize and maintain these records?  Are you familiar with each of the necessary documents you are required to maintain?

Do you understand that failing a New Entrant Safety Audit can result in:

  • fines,
  • corrective action plans
  • being put Out Of Service until corrective actions have taken place
