Key Strategies for E-Commerce Product Listings

When shopping for a product, the design and packaging is essential to captivate your attention. Whether it be in-store or online, the first impression that customers have of your product is extremely important if you want your E-Commerce store to succeed. For in-store products, the label’s price and brand can determine whether the product is luxury or cheap. Even changing the design, shape or size of the product can increase sales. However, for E-commerce, product listing is a pivotal factor for your products selling well online. By following these few steps you can make your online shop soar!

What Exactly is a Product Listing ?

Every Product Listing page must include the price of the product, reviews from customers who have previously purchased the product, purchase options (i.e credit/debit card, Paypal, Google Pay & Apple Pay) and images and videos are a huge factor to a successful product listing – the product image must be clear, sharp and preferably on a plain white background to make the product stand out. A thorough description of the product is a major factor for a listing, as the customer can’t see or hold the item in person. They’ll need as much information as possible to determine whether it is suitable for them. Therefore, the more details the better. Including aspects such as the features, shipping options, the technical details and customer reviews are a huge advantage.

What is a Product Listing for E-Commerce sites ?

B2C (business to consumer) or C2C (customer to customer) are usually the types of sales that are available online. With in-store products, they are usually targeting a specific market segment (a group of people who share one or more similar characteristics). However, anyone can sell online by making an account in any marketplace or web store of their choice for creating an e-commerce listing.

There are different types of E-Commerce listings such as :

Retail : A shop that sells products to a consumer
Wholesale : A company that sells bulk products to a retailer
Subscription : A recurring payment schedule that generally comes out monthly via direct debit with a rolling contract receiving goods from a company/retailer
Digital Goods : A service that is usually offered online such as courses or software

Product Detail Page

If your product detail page is short and snappy, visitors to the website may hesitate to buy if there’s not much information to go on. That’s why it’s incredibly important to include the size, material, dimensions etc. For example, if you mention that the dress is a cotton dress – enlighten your customers on where the cotton was sourced from. Remember to always try to up-sell the product. Mention the positive aspects i.e the texture of the dress or what occasion you could wear the dress to and other products you could style this item with (be creative and visionary!)

The Importance of Product Ad’s

There’s a difference between Product Listing AD’s and Standard Text AD’s – with product listings, consumer’s can see the product that you’re selling when you search for a specific product in the search bar. Paying for common keywords that are relevant to your product can help boost your sales i.e “ white cotton dress”. The more keywords, the higher the chance your product will be found by potential buyers, this process is called CPC (Cost-Per-Click) in Google AD Words.

So remember, if you want your product to succeed it’s always best to mention as much information as possible by going into specific details of your items. Upload your products to as many marketplaces and web stores as possible and maybe think of investing in product ad’s..little adjustments can go a long way.
