Atlassian Team '24: Everything You Need to Know
It’s the event of year for Atlassian fans: Team ’24 landed in Vegas last week.
We, along with hundreds of fellow Atlassian advocates, partners and vendors, were part of the action. Team ’24 has always been one of the highlights of our calendar, and this year didn’t disappoint.
From leaps forward in AI to significant developments in Jira, the event was brimming with product updates and insights. So, allow us to guide you through the key updates you need to know about.

AI is continuing to evolve - fast
This time last year at Team ’23, Atlassian announced Atlassian Intelligence, its flagship AI offering.
Since then, we’ve seen Atlassian Intelligence enter general availability and start to have an impact on teams’ work – from summarising extensive text in Confluence documents to supporting agents in Jira Service Management.
Today, Atlassian estimates that 30,000 organisations are boosting their productivity with Atlassian Intelligence, and that it is saving teams an average of 45 minutes a week.
Team’24 saw the unveiling of several exciting new features. We particularly like its ‘AI in whiteboards’ functionality, where AI will transform your planning and brainstorming by generating ideas, creating visual sticky notes and grouping insights together.
Alongside this, we’re looking forward to the ‘AI work breakdown’ feature, whereby Atlassian Intelligence will suggest where to break epics into issues, and issues into sub-tasks. Designed to cut the time spent creating issues one-by-one, this feature is currently in Beta.
Introducing Rovo
At this year’s event, the true focus was on a new AI-powered tool joining the Atlassian ecosystem: Rovo.
Described by Atlassian as the ‘new product that helps you turn information into action in a heartbeat’, Rovo has been designed to solve the problem of enterprise search and knowledge discovery.
With Rovo, you’ll be able to search and find information across a vast array of tools and platforms, from third-party apps to home-grown systems.
Alongside its immense search capabilities, Rovo’s unique value derives from Atlassian’s teamwork-graph, a data model first shared when Atlassian Intelligence was launched. Without context, data is meaningless, so Rovo draws upon your organsation’s own structure, people, projects and objectives, to provide valuable, real-time results.

A new chapter for Jira
One of the wonders of Atlassian is that it never stands still – the team are continuously seeking new ways to innovate and exceed customer expectations.
As one of the ‘Atlassian originals’ Jira (or, as it’s often referred to, Jira Software) is no stranger to this evolution – but even we were surprised at some of the significant changes announced at this year’s Team event.
Put simply, Jira Work Management (JWM) is being rolled into Jira Software (which will now solely be referred to as Jira), to create a powerful tool where all teams can manage their work.
The change has resulted in some exciting new upgrades to Jira’s functionality. From the new ‘Goals’ capability (coming soon) to unite all teams with shared objectives, to increasingly flexible ways to manage work with enhanced views and plans, this is a big shake-up for Jira.
How can you start using Jira?
A couple of things to note here. The first is that the tool consolidation mentioned above only impacts Jira Cloud.
If you’re already a Jira Cloud user, then you don’t need to do anything. There’s no change to your plan or pricing, and you can simply start benefitting from your new work management functionality today! (Some features will be rolled out over the coming months, so do keep an eye out for those.)
If you’re a Jira Work Management user, Atlassian have confirmed you’ll continue to have access to JWM until you’re migrated to a Jira subscription. Migrations are due to begin in early 2025.
Increased investment in Cloud security
Information security has never been more important, with high-profile security breaches hitting the headlines with alarming regularity.
As such, another highlight of Team’24 was the unveiling of Atlassian Guard. This brings together existing Atlassian Access and Becon capabilities alongside innovative new data-loss prevention functionality.
The result is robust new security product, designed to protect your data from misuse, detect threats and strengthen your Cloud security processes – all with a unique Atlassian focus.
Atlassian Guard is available in two plans. Standard provides all the Access features you’ve come to know and rely on, with additional enhancements around SSO and other areas.
The premium plan, meanwhile, extends your information security measures with even more, from expanded threat detection and investigation to comprehensive audit logging.
