Scientists have created a new low-cost Nasal Swab test that can reliably diagnose the existence of COVID-19-causing SARS-CoV-2 virus in just 20 minutes. The results, published in the Medical Microbiology Journal, indicate that the test called N1-STOP-LAMP is 100 % effective in the diagnosis of high-load samples containing SARS-CoV-2.

According to Scientists, the rapid molecular test is highly reliable. It is easy to use, making it a perfect candidate for use in environments with limited testing capabilities. The procedure requires the use of a small portable unit. They said can accurately detect SARS-CoV-2 from a single nasal swab.

This new test uses only one tube and only requires a single stage. Making it more effective and cheaper than many of the existing SARS-CoV-2 tests. In testing 157 confirms-positive samples, the N1-STOP-LAMP system find to 100 per cent reliable. It is correctly classified 87 per cent of tests as positive. The results were simple, with 93 of those clinical samples having an average time-to-positive of 14 minutes.
