Where to find great UI/UX blogs and resources

A great user experience can set an app apart from others. That’s why we put a lot of effort in the UX/UI aspects of every project we undertake. If you feel the same way, you know it doesn’t matter if you are a Designer, a developer, a tech lead, a PO or any other role within a software development project: user experience is a responsibility for us all.

Therefore, we decided to share interesting websites where anyone can find insightful and updated information about UX/UI concepts. To do that, we asked for the help of our own team members when discussing these topics: the Crafting team! Our designers Tatiana, Claudia, Juan, and Majo helped us to brainstorm this list of savvy UX blogs. You can follow them to be constantly informed and inspired.

Pick a website based on your goal! We explain more about each one below:

  • Find out the latest news and trends: Nielsen Norman Group, CoDesign, UX Collective
  • Get inspired and promote your creations: Dribbble, Muzli, Behance
  • Participate in discussions to learn and Exchange ideas: Boxes&Arrows, UX Stack Exchange
  • Discover experiences of other teams with UX: UX Planet, UruIT UX Session

Find out the latest news and trends

If you want to keep up-to-date with UX and UI news, you should definitely visit the Nielsen Norman Group, CoDesign, and UX Collective websites. In the first one, you will find the official research of UX experts led by Jakob Nielsen. He’s known worldwide as the guru of web page usability. This group of UX consultants conduct groundbreaking research and share their conclusions with the community in insightful articles.

On the other hand, CoDesign’s motto is: “where business and design collide.” Following this purpose, this portal publishes the latest happenings in the design world and how they can influence your business: app releases, product launches, industry influencers’ analyses and other information that can help you to understand and support the UX designers on your team.

Another great option is UX Collective, a Medium page that posts curated stories on user experience, usability, and product design. When you visit this page, you will get to know the hottest UX events you should attend, brainy articles and real-life stories from a very creative and experienced group of designers.

Get inspired and promote your creations

Other platforms, such as Dribbble and Behance, are hotspots to showcase the interfaces your team is developing. It’s a good idea to encourage your team’s designers to have a presence on these websites. They can upload their creations in order to get recognition and show their experience to the community. Besides that website, Muzli is a site where the whole team can receive curated content to keep an eye on design trends you are most interested in.

Our Crafting team also uses these sites as sources of inspiration to know and evaluate upcoming trends, kicking off a new project with fresh ideas. Going even further, a potential client or user could also find out about your product from any of these platforms.

Participate in discussions to learn and exchange ideas

To have deeper conversations about UX/UI concepts and practices, another suggestion we have for you and your team are websites like Boxes and Arrows and UX Stack Exchange. The first one is focused on promoting debates around everything related to design, from information architecture to graphic design. They publish disruptive articles that give readers a lot to think about, aiming to shake up their creativity and critical thinking.

UX Stack Exchange is a forum where people in the industry get together to ask and answer questions about user experience. Anyone can join the website and participate in the discussion. Therefore, it’s an interesting option for either designers who are stuck in a problem or want to help the community, or for other team members who don’t have a design background but would like to understand some concepts better.

Discover the experiences of other teams with UX

At UX Planet you will find interesting stories of people that are right now working with user experience, their insights and learning points. It’s in Medium, which is, in general, a great place to connect with interesting voices within the software industry.

UX Planet presents itself as “the one-stop resource for everything related to user experience.” It doesn’t matter if you have little experience with UX or if you are an expert, in this blog you can find tutorials to improve your skills, guides for improving your team dynamics, how-to’s and roundups with lots of data that you should keep in mind when talking about UX.

To sum up our list of blogs, we’d also like to suggest UruIT’s blog session dedicated to User Experience. In this part of our blog, we often publish articles about our own experience with UX projects and the perspectives of our Crafting team. Therefore, it’s a nice place to read about real-life stories of user experience projects and the connection between UX and software development.

More resources

We hope these suggestions come in handy so you and your team can stay up to date with UX/UI design trends! If you are more of a visual person, our designers recommend a list of movies and documentaries. These content will also help you to expand your knowledge on the subject:

  • Abstract: The Art of Design
  • Minimalism
  • Helvetica
  • Objectified by Gary Hustwit
  • Google Design Channel
  • Design Is One: The Vignellis Official Trailer
  • DESIGN DISRUPTORS Trailer
