In our house it is so hard to keep enough new books on hand. Every member of the house reads all the time. My daughter and husband read voraciously. Some books my daughter reads in an hour so we’ve had to find other ways to keep books in her hands.

One way we came across while we were in Ashland was book swapping. In the neighborhood we lived in they had this thing that looked between a mailbox and a bird house. It had a glass door and shelves in it. It was full of books, it was take a book leave a book. I thought it was so cool. I’ve also seen the book swap in a few airports. It’s an awesome idea.

Amazon is hosting a big Book Swap day at the Van Vorst Libraby and courtyard in celebration of World Book Day…

WHEN:             Thursday, April 20 – 2:30 to 5:00 PM

RSVPs are requested for press & spokesperson interview requests.

WHERE:              Amazon’s Van Vorst Library and courtyard – 426 Terry Ave N, Seattle, WA

This is Amazon’s first time to host a World Book Day event with a Global Free Library. The Seattle event is one of several in a series of Global Free Library events being held in 12 counties around the world. Amazon employees and book publishers are donating books to supply the free library. That way when you show up with  your book to donate/swap you’ll have some books to choose from. Each attendee will be able to share the personal significance of the book they brought to donate on a unique bookmark provided to place inside the book for the next person to enjoy. Any books leftover will be donated to Mary’s Place & the Pike Place Market Foundation.

While there you can also participate in author readings, popular book quote henna tattoos and make other donations to local charities that support literacy through AmazonSmile.
