There Must Be a Connection

In the process of curating the Arteeni website, I have found a number of Artisans that have double lives. Many have also pursued careers in Counseling and pyschology. I'm convinced there is a connection. I am not sure whether the art is the therapy or the therapy stimulates creativity.

In the case of Linda Anderson, after a career in teaching art, she went back to school to receive a MA in Counseling from Azusa Pacific University, and earned a Marriage and Family Therapist license where she worked as a counselor for a few years.

Just when I thought, upon reading her bio, that she had accomplished so much, I read on. She became a mom and a few years later, "My family had the once in a lifetime opportunity to go sailing, so we sold everything and took off from California, ending up in Trinidad and Tobago in the West Indies. It was there I used my skills in counseling to become the International School elementary guidance counselor. During that time I also became a parent trainer and helped hundreds and hundreds of families. Knowing I have made a positive difference in another country has been the most humbling and gratifying life experience possible. Others are now continuing that work with families."

After 10 years she returned and fell in love with quilting. But, this is no ordinary quilting. Take a look at her work (this one is called Respite) and sit back and sigh. I think I will go visit my therapist now. Enjoy.
