Necklace size chart
This handy necklace size chart covers most standard lengths. It will give you an idea of where each length is likely to sit on most women.
But remember that everyone is different and if you're not sure then you should measure to see what will suit you and your outfit/s.
Updated: our necklace lengths
Recently we've changed to using adjustable chains for most necklaces in the online jewellery shop. These allow you to adjust from standard or princess length (45cm/18") to matinee length (55cm/21.5").
We also have separate extender chains available in gold and silver which will allow you to increase the length of most clasped chains by an extra 15cm (6"), taking them up to opera length (70cm/27.5"). This will add even more versatility to your jewellery collection.

Which necklace size to wear?
Standard (or princess) length necklaces (usually 45cm or 18") are the most commonly worn length and will suit most situations.
This length will generally to sit above the neckline for lower cut clothing or over the top of crew necked and other high necked outfits. If you're wearing a pendant at this length it will sit in a pleasing V shape which will frame your face.
If you are tall or have a large neck try a matinee length necklace (usually 55cm or 22”) to get the same effect.
How to measure for a necklace
The simplest way is to measure an existing necklace which suits you with a tape measure.
Alternatively use some string, ribbon or a soft measuring tape to work out what will work for you and the clothing you wish to wear the necklace with.
If you stand in front of a mirror while doing this it will be much easier to work it out - and it's a great idea to have someone else hold the ends together so you get a better idea of how different lengths will sit on you.
Remember that a pendant will generally hang in a V shape rather than with a softer curve.

On the collarbone | This is the most commonly purchased length. It will look flattering on most women and work well with most outfits which suit wearing a necklace. If the necklace has a pendant which forms a V-type shape then it's likely to look great with a v-neck, surplice or sweetheart neckline. |
| Matinee | Between the collarbone and the bust | Also looks good with a wide array of outfits, including for business or casual wear. You'll find this length will work especially well over collared shirts and also higher necklines. If you are tall or have a larger neck try this length as your go-to size rather than the standard (princess) length. |
| Opera | On the bust or several centimetres below | This length works really well for most high necklines - including turtle necks and boat necks. It's also an elegant choice for evening wear. Depending on the length and your build you may also be able to wear an opera length wrapped around your neck more than once to form a double stranded collar or choker. |
| No necklace | N/A | Generally speaking if you are wearing a very low plunge neckline or a high halter neck, you'll probably find that you're best off wearing larger eye-catching earrings and rings rather than a necklace. |
