Put Your Best Foot Forward

While you may work at getting that perfect body and looking radiant on your wedding day, there is one part of our body we all tend to ignore – the feet! And while regular pedicures may be of help, there are certain home remedies which are DIY and easy to follow that will give your feet a well groomed and cared for look – so when you walk into the mandap – you shine from head to toe!

1) Lemon wash

Start by washing your feet with lukewarm water and drying them off well. Then apply a mix of lemon and water and Massage your feet with this. This removes tan and spots effectively and leaves you with brighter skin.

2) Milk and haldi wash

Follow the lemon wash up with a concoction of cold milk mixed with haldi. Lemon, although a great tan-remover, tends to dry the skin off. Massage your feet and legs gently with this mix and wait for 10 minutes until it dries off. Then wash this well with lukewarm water.

3) Salt scrub

Follow up with a Salt Scrub – made with one part salt and four parts massage oil and massage your feet well, scrubbing off any impurities on the feet. Make sure you take this scrub between your toes and even across the heels. This scrub, although slightly harsh, is very effective for removing dry and dead skin, leaving your with smooth, shiny and fresh. Make sure you don’t have any blisters or open wounds or else they will burn. Wash the scrub off within a matter of minutes – do not leave the salt to dry on your body.

4) Oatmeal scrub

An alternative to the Salt Scrub is an Oatmeal scrub, if you want to go a little light. Not as effective as salt, oatmeal also has the same exfoliating effect as a scrub and can be used by people with sensitive or delicate skin. This is useful if you have wounds and bruises on your legs as it won’t burn. Simply mix one part oatmeal with one part milk or water and get to work. Wash this off after it dries.

5) Rose water toner

An all-natural toner, rosewater leaves your feet smelling and feeling fresh and floral apart from toning the newly scrubbed skin. It also cools down irritated areas where the scrub has overworked its exfoliation, soothing red areas and restoring them to normalcy. Alternatively you could also use aloevera gel mixed with water and a little sandalwood powder. Wipe the area dry with a soft cloth.

6) Foot cream

This is the last step – massage your feet extremely well, putting enough pressure on the nerve endings and pressing with a little extra force. Use a slightly greasy Foot cream to restore the moisture that may have been lost in the process.
