3 Smart Ways to Reuse Your Wedding Lehenga

We’ve all gushed and ooh’d and aah’d over that perfect ensemble, studded with pearls, stones and silken threads – this is one Outfit we hold extremely close to our hearts. And emotions aside, it has also cost us a bomb, considering all that intricate handwork and the rich fabrics used in the making of it.
So here’s what you can do to make the most of your wedding outfit, after the wedding is done.

1) Lend it to your friends/relatives
As difficult as it sounds, the best way to squeeze out the most from your expensive wedding outfit is to let other brides wear it. Those girls who can’t afford such an expensive outfit or who are not too keen on shelling out a bomb for their wedding will benefit the most from your old lehenga. And what better use for your gorgeous ensemble than to light up yet another bride’s D-Day!

Share your special lehenga with your best friend or relative

2) Wear it separately

Team the heavy Blouse up                                                                                                                                                                                                                                  with a Plain Skirt for a dazzling effect

Make the best use of your Wedding Lehenga by wearing all of its elements separately. Every three piece lehenga ( skirt, blouse and dupatta) is made with a lot of elaborate handwork on extremely rich fabrics that would make the bride stand out. But if you get a plain, solid coloured kurta, say in raw silk or gajji, you could team up your heavily worked dupatta with it for a friend’s wedding too. Same way, the blouse could be made use of, over an elegant saree, or you could get a much muted skirt and dupatta to go with an extremely heavy blouse to sober your look. For the lehenga though, it gets a little difficult since it is the heaviest element of the entire ensemble. A great way to team up the lehenga would be to get a plain crop top made in a complimenting colour and adding just a hint of embroidery to its neckline, such that it matches that of the skirt. Wear it to a close friend or relative’s wedding. The blouse isn’t that much trouble, team it up with a plain silk skirt and add a beautiful border to it, you’re all set.

3) Deconstructed lehenga

A little sheer and a smart tailor can transform it into a brand new outfit

We live in an age where food is ‘deconstructed’ and presented to you in such a way that all the elements of the dish are intact on your plate, but not in the form you’re used to seeing it. The same formula can work in fashion too, if done right! Deconstructing your wedding lehenga takes guts of steel – after all, it isn’t easy to tear apart the one, lavish piece of garment you own. But then, if you’re not too overly attached to your outfit, you could give it up for the ‘greater good’. You could use the lavish borders at the hem of your lehenga to amp up a plain sheer jacket or a kurta or simply get a plain raw silk skirt made and add oomph to it with these exquisite borders. The skirt of your lehengas usually have a lot of fabric, you could get a jacket, kurta or blouse anything made out of it, provided you have a smart tailor. The blouse can be used as it is or could be turned into an anarkali by adding some plain fabric to the bottom. Similarly the skirt too could be turned into an anarkali by adding a muted yoke to it and finishing the look with a plain net or chiffon stole. Dupattas are best used as it is, but of your dupatta is too heavy, you could cut off its borders too and use the rest of the fabric for layering over any outfit. The possibilities are endless!
