Rhode Island Sound From Newport Neck
On a Sunday afternoon, what is the sound Rhode Island makes? The sound is of breezes blowing and waves meeting the shore.
We use the term “sound” frequently, but what is a sound with regard to a body of water? In this case, we are addressing “Rhode Island Sound”. A sound is a body of water recessed from a larger body. Here we are standing near Brenton Point at the southernmost point of Newport Neck. This means that we are south of the line of demarcation of Narragansett Bay and looking out to a recessed area of the Atlantic Ocean designated as Rhode Island Sound.
