Cardinals - They’re Good For All of Us!
We all love Cardinals as birds. They provide a splash of cheery red color to our days, they have a loud, clear song, and they are said to be symbolic of good parenting.
Recent studies have also said that they are good for us as well. A recent article from Mother Nature Network refers to a study in the American Journal of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene that help stop the carriage of the West Nile Virus.

Mosquitos feed on birds, just like the rest of us. In so doing, they carry and retransmit this zoonotic disease from bird to mosquito to other animals and humans . That is except for the Cardinal. There is a quality about the Cardinal that acts as a “super-suppressor” of the West Nile Virus. While the Cardinal will absorb this virus, they do not pass it on.
