10 Tips For a Spectacular Mehendi Colour

This one’s for all the brides with Henna anxiety out there. The age-old myth according to which the intensity and depth of the henna colour indicates the love in the forthcoming marriage is enough to make all brides nervous. Even though we are not in firm support of such myths, we sure can help you with getting the bold mehendi colour you want!

1.Leave it on longer –

An obvious tip but it’s a sure shot winner. Don’t scrape off your Mehndi for at least 12 hours and you will see the deep colour it gives later.

2. Choose Arabic and coloured mehndi –

This trick is a cheats guide to a besutiful and rich henna colour. Yes, coloured mehndi can be bad for skin if applied frequently, but a single application before your wedding day will do no harm. Ask henna artists to apply Arabic or coloured mehndi to get a definite dark and intense colour on your hand and feet.

3. Use mustard oil-

An old ‘nani/dadi’ panthera, Mustard Oil helps in enriching the mehndi colour and adding intensity. The properties of the mustard oil and the heat from it help darken the colour. Heat some mustard oil and apply it on the henna before and after removing it with cotton.

4. Kapoor-

Kapoor is more than just a pooja aid. In fact it helps with cold and allergies, but is also an excellent henna enhancer! Burn kapoor and expose your palm and feet to the fumes to get a rich, dark henna colour.

5. Eucalyptus oil-

Just like the mustard oil, this fragrant oil also helps in getting a dark, red mehndi colour. Apply it using cotton and warm your hands on the fumes of a tawa kept on heat. (lingering of course, please don’t keep your palms directly on the pan)

6. Lemon and sugar-

The age old nuska gets its credibility from the fact that it works. This simple trick helps you reach your henna goals. Just soak a cotton ball in a lemon and sugar mix and dab it on the henna before removing it. Both lemon and sugar help by releasing the most colour from the henna.

7. Clove fumes-

Another easy and useful tip. Boil some cloves and garlic in water and then steam the mehndi design on it. Also, keep distance from the pot and don’t burn yourself in the pursuit of darker henna.

9. Don’t wash hands for 24 hours-

More of a ‘don’t’ than a do, steer clear of water and soap for at least a day. This might sound a little unhygienic, but we are sure you can use a spoon to eat for a day to get the desired results.

10. Cover it up-

This advice can deem your limbs redundant for 12 hours but all for a good cause. Cover up the henna areas with a polybag or cellophane to lock in the henna fumes that bring the intense dark colour to your mehndi.
