European Commission outlines plans to make landline calls anywhere in Europe the same price as calling someone in their home country and calling from a mobile would be set at 16p a minute

The European Commission has outlined plans to abolish the premium rates currently charged when Calling another European country.  This would mean that it would cost the same to call someone in another EU as it would to call someone in their own country.  The proposals also include a 16p per minute cap on calling another EU country from a mobile.

If these planas go ahead, currently scheduled to go live in 2016, it would mean big savings for expats calling their home country.  Although many expats will be using Skype and the likes of Viber which offer free calls, nevertheless, this is still welcome news.
