Mercadona is one of the cheapest supermarkets according to study by the Organization of Consumers and Users

Popular Supermarket chain Mercadona is one of the Cheapest Supermarkets in Spain according to the annual report from the Organization of Consumers and Users (OCU).  The Valencian based company appears in the top three cheapest supermarkets in 54 of the 63 cities covered, and also on the internet.

The Study also notes that a basket of goods in the major supermarket chains has increased by 2.9% , which is nearly 3 times the 1% Rise noted in the 2012 survey.  Worryingly for consumers, according to the OCU study, the products that have seen the biggest Price Rises are every day items such as potatoes, olive oil, aubergines, lemons, cucumbers, salmon, apples and green peppers, which have seen price rises of over 20%.

I've certainly noticed these price rises in Mercadona over recent years, but it's still a great value supermarket.
