PENDANT LIGHTING QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS

Pendant Lighting Fixtures come in many different sizes and shapes.  Low Voltage and Line Voltage fixtures have differences that customers need to be aware of.  Positions and spacing require a little more information gathering to get it right.  LED verses Incandescent or Fluorescent are common considerations in choice.  What is the correct Dimmer to use for my choice of Pendant?  What color glass should I consider?  Are there different sizes of the same style available?  Do I need Task Lighting or is this for decoration?  Can I put Pendants all over my home or business?

Pendant Lighting Manufacturers have engineered many beautiful designs to create works of art manufactured from around the world.  “Tech Lighting” and “LBL Lighting” have many fixtures with “Murano Glass”.  “Schonbek Lighting” has Pendant Lighting Fixtures designed with “Swarovski Crystals”.  Sparkle and shine can create prismatic reflections of accents to your room designs.  Pendant Lighting Fixtures from “ELK Lighting” can be positioned in Modern Kitchen designs.

Position multiple pendants fixtures over a high ceiling in a Foyer.  Stagger Low Voltage Pendants from LBL Lighting over a grand staircase to the second or third floor.  Long Linear “Lily Pendants” have three color choices and a smaller size called “Mini-Lily”, with the same color choices.  Artistic colored glass fixtures are translucent and gorgeous.  Positioning LED Mini Pendant Lighting Fixtures from “Kichler Lighting”, down a hallway will create a touch of elegance.  Dining Room Tables can benefit with new designs in mounting, such as a slow curving linear track system from Tech Lighting.  “Interior Designers” can help create beautiful designs and shapes to coordinate with your living spaces.  I love showing customers the flexibility of the T-Trak System from Tech Lighting.  The T-Trak system can change directions to follow Kitchen Island shapes.

Low Voltage Pendants require a Transformer or Driver to operate the lighting source.  Halogen Bi pin bulbs or LED products have advantages because of size.  Contemporary LED Manufacturers are offering more and more choices to choose from.  The advantage of LED is that there is very little heat and maintenance.  Line Voltage Pendants are my favorite because there is no transformer.  I can choose from Incandescent, Fluorescent or LED bulb choices to complete the fixture.  I love the new Vintage Style LED bulbs from “Satco” for clear glass Pendants from “Hinkley Lighting”.  For other Pendants with color choices I can choose the Kelvin Temperature of the LED bulb to coordinate with the glass color.  A high Kelvin Temperature of 5000 Kelvin, or Daylight, is excellent with blue colored glass.  A Kelvin Temperature of 3000 Kelvin works well with Brown or Amber colored glass.

Dimmers from “Lutron” have six questions for every dimmer to get it right the first time.  Beautiful styles and color choices can create a wow factor in your home.  Legrands, “Adorne Style” True Universal Dimmers have less questions to ask and also have beautiful color combinations worth researching.  Low Voltage Pendants will require Low Voltage Dimmers.  Customer Service is always a big plus with the Lighting Manufacturer to help in answering the questions related to the correct dimmer for their products.  I always recommend getting a Licensed Electrician to install your lighting products.  Please read my Blog on “Understanding LED Dimmers and Switches for a Residential Home” This may answer a number of questions for you.

Kitchens with Peninsulas need to consider wall cabinets with doors that may open into a designed location for a Pendant Lighting Fixture.  I always recommend creating a model of the fixture design in consideration for purchase.  Just cut out a piece of cardboard or paper and make the height and width the same as the fixture in question.  Having a model will give you an example to see if the fixture will be to dominate or to small.  Interior Designers take many factors into consideration before recommending a purchase.  I always recommend having a professional to help in the information gathering to get it right the first time.

Task Lighting is necessary to read the paper or to see what you are eating.  Line Voltage Pendants with a maximum wattage allowance for a medium base A19 incandescent bulb of sixty watts may benefit with more light value from Fluorescent or LED bulb options.  Wattage maximums are generally for incandescent bulb types because of the heat generated by the bulb.  Fluorescent and LED bulbs do not get as hot and have wattage comparisons on their label to compare with the incandescent counterpart.  The benefit with Fluorescent and LED bulbs is that because they do not get as hot as the incandescent bulbs you can create a larger light value with less energy then the maximum wattage allowed.  Fluorescent bulbs generally use one fourth the energy of the incandescent counterpart.  As an example a 13 watt Edison Base Fluorescent bulb from “Satco” is the equivalent to a 60 watt A19 incandescent bulb.  An A19 bulb is a regular light bulb that has been around for over a hundred years.  LED bulbs are increasingly becoming more efficient.  A 10 watt Edison Base A19 LED bulb from “Satco” is the equivalent to a 60 watt incandescent bulb.  Most Fluorescent bulbs are not dimmable.  LED bulbs are generally dimmable.  I recommend having more control with dimmable products.  Pendants with an open bottom may allow more light to travel downwards for Task Lighting.  I recommend traveling to our Lighting Showroom to see examples of Task Lighting Pendants.  By just changing a bulb design, larger values of light are possible from the same fixture.  “Satco” has a 75 watt equivalent LED A19 bulb using 12 watts of energy. One hundred watt comparisons are using about 16 watts of energy and are a little taller A21 design.

For areas of your home with plenty of light from other sources you may consider Pendants with closed bottoms which are generally used for Ambient Lighting.  Ambient Lighting Pendants will add a light value to the room area.  I have many customers who have excellent amounts of Task Lighting for the Kitchen coming from “Halo LED Recessed Lighting”.  The same customers are looking for Pendants to be colorful and artistic compliments to the Cabinets and Counter Tops.

Many different designs and shapes are available for Pendants Lighting Fixtures for your home or work place.  Think outside the box and consult with the professionals for other ideas that will create a custom look.  Pendant Lighting Fixtures from “Tech Lighting” can be used in Wall Sconce Designs.  This is worth researching. As always thanks for visiting Lighting Miami
