Another Reason to Love Dave Matthews

Every year the Michael J. Fox Foundation (MJFF) has a gala to raise funds that attracts all kinds of people. Many are performers, comedians, musicians, actors, etc. On Saturday, November 12th, the crowd had the privilege of listening to Dave Matthews and his band perform. The highlight of the event, "A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to Cure Parkinson's" was when Michael J. Fox joined Dave Matthews on stage to jam. The song was a Bob Dylan piece, "All Along the Watchtower." This year the event raised $5.7 million for the Foundation.

You might be aware that another fundraiser that has been remarkably successful for the foundation was a limited edition self-lacing Nike shoe. The Nike Mag, as it is called, made its swan song at the event in an auction for the guests. The pair of shoes were sold for a winning bid of $200,000. That's one pair of expensive sneakers!

There were many celebrities present for the event including, Julianna Margulies and Keith Lieberthal, Blythe Danner, George Stroumboulopoulos and Foundation Board members Willie Geist and George Stephanopoulos.

Katie Couric summed up the reason why she is a regular at the event. "Research toward Parkinson's is going to help a whole host of neurological disorders. I'm just so proud of what Michael and Tracy and the whole Foundation have been able to accomplish. And the only way we're going to have a cure, or better drugs that help manage the disease, is if we don't let up and don't take our foot off the gas. So anything I can do to support this really important work, I will do for as long as I can."

To date this event has raised over $70 million dollars and every cent goes to finding a cure. To hear the jam between the two musicians, click here.
