In Honor of Caregivers

November is National Family Caregiver Month. Throughout November, the Alzheimer's Association honors and recognizes the more than 15 million Americans caring for someone with Alzheimer's disease. "Caring for a loved one is a 24/7 job that comes with ever-changing responsibilities and unique needs. The Alzheimer's Association provides programs and services to those living with Alzheimer's disease and their loved ones," organizers said.

If you are providing care for someone with Alzheimer's disease or another dementia and have questions, please contact them at 800-272-3900. They are there to answer questions and help support your many needs as a caregiver.

Also, if you live in the Chattanooga, TN area you are invited to attend a conference on Nov. 18 from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. at Ooltewah United Methodist Church in Ooltewah."There are 426,000 caregivers caring for someone with Alzheimer's disease in Tennessee," said Amy French, senior manager of programs for the Alzheimer's Association. "A diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease can lead to many questions from the person diagnosed as well as their family members. Our conference can provide information and answers to help caregivers understand more about the disease."

Dr. Terry Melvin, palliative care expert, will be the keynote speaker and speak on Alzheimer's disease and caregiving. This conference will include discussions on topics related to Alzheimer's disease, community resources, lunch and door prizes. This event is free, but registration is required. For more information and to register contact Amy French at 423-265-3600.
