It Takes a Surgeons Hands

Lori Gottlieb was a surgeon and practiced her craft for 15 years until she developed double and blurry vision, which is certainly not a great thing for a surgeon. Instead of giving in to the disability, she embraced the challenge to continue her life in a meaningful way. She continued riding her bike and pursued creative endeavors, taking ceramics and jewelry classes. It turned out this was her new path.

Her years of surgery turned out to be a wonderful practice for what was to come. Her fine motor skills help her to create incredible and detailed jewelry. Now her own boss, she is able to make her pieces when her eyes perform the best: in the early mornings and evenings. I am always inspired by people who work around their disabilities. She avoids straight lines and creates her pieces to move in tandem with the body. Also, she tends to work in a more representational form and all of her work is fluid, lyrical and sensual.

As Claire Patterson Blome wrote in an article for American Style magazine, "Lori Gottlieb's organic jewelry pairs great attention to detail with the a total embrace of imperfection." We are so glad to have her work with us at Arteeni. Lori, you go, girl!
