Belfast’s Digital identity and background check provider SureCert is a clear example of the speed at which a startup can build their own name.
The company has won a contract to support the foundation of a national digital ID system from the government of Thailand. This win comes, no doubt, as a result of SureCert’s experience in digital ID. SureCert built Northern Ireland’s Covid Certification process, a key contributor to the successful identity verification of three quarters of the country’s adults with face biometrics.

The contract with Thailand will support the country’s digital identity strategy focused on reducing fraud and providing secure online access for government services. As such, this will require a robust, reliable, and secure solution from SureCert.
Founded in 2017, the company was originally motivated to develop reusable digital identity tech in order to enable employers to verify the credentials of job applicants. When the COVID-19 pandemic spread rapidly, SureCert saw a need their technology could address.
With growth of this magnitude, and the appointment of a new CEO, Mark Owens, the company has announced plans to more than triple its full-time employee headcount over the next two years.
