A 5G mobile phone mast is being planned in an area that enrages residents, who say it will be an “ugly sight.”.

H3G (UK) Ltd – or Three – has submitted a planning application to Havant Borough Council in Hampshire for a 15m mast.

Only three of the 122 public comments supported the Purbrook monopole tower.

Main complaint:

Three – the company behind the fastest-growing 5G network in the UK – is a telecommunications and internet service provider based in the United Kingdom.

The company has previously stated it tries to keep its masts as discreet as possible.

Wendy Brown, a resident of 65 St John’s Avenue, wrote to the Local Democracy Reporting Service to complain the mast would “dominate” the area. According to her, it would dwarf the chalets and houses that surround the green. According to Ms Brown, the 15m masts would be “visually intrusive and incongruous”.

A community meeting is scheduled for Wednesday at the proposed site. This is  to gather local support.

Neighbour Mike Gillham said: 

“The main issue is how ugly it’s going to be; bungalows surround it, there are no big trees, everything is low-lying.”

A spokesperson said

“the firm’s new masts were “critical” as they “offer the community a reliable network experience”.

“While we try to keep mast sites as unobtrusive as possible, they need to be situated where people will be using the service and, in many cases, in precise locations to ensure the widest breadth of coverage”.
