Northern Ireland has been committed to enhancing their own innovation, with plenty of investment into R&D. Recently, the Smart Nano NI consortium has been granted £42.4 million in funding in an effort to meet their innovation goals.

Smart Nano NI is a Northern Ireland consortium collaborating to develop game-changing advanced prototyping and smart manufacturing methods to deliver new technologies. In total, they have secured £63.9M in funding. They plan to direct this towards the acceleration and development of prototypes and smart manufacturing methods.

Smart Nano NI has extensive niche expertise in nanotechnology, working at the molecular and even atomic level. They aren’t limited in their work though, as they use nano technology to expand research on anything from cloud computing to drug discovery. They don’t hold back on speed of development either, as they plan to deliver 100 prototypes through this funding – a mission that will also lead to new jobs in the region.

The funding comes from the UK Research and Innovation Strength in Places Fund. This fund is focused on supporting innovation-led growth and collaborations in the region.
