MSI gaming gs63 laptop in-depth review 2023
MSI gaming gs63
The massively powerful, mind-blowingly fast supercars class gaming laptops like this dual DT X 1080 monster from Sager,
which I recently viewed, and the lightweight, thin, but still potent class that appears to have emerged as a direct response to the original razor blade in 2013 are two types of gaming laptops that I get excited about.
This one belongs to the latter category; MSI Freshbooks is an extremely straightforward invoicing solution that enables you to become more organized while also saving you time.
The MSI gaming GS 63 VR is a VR-ready enthusiast-grade configuration with an Intel Core i7 6700 HQ quad-core processor, 16 gigs of DDR4 memory, a 128 gig name SSD, and a GeForce GTX 1060 with 6 gigs of gddr5 VRAM.
As expected, MSI crammed all of this into the same chassis as the GS 63 VRS GTX 970m-equipped predecessor, which means a 1080p 60 fps.
Let's talk about i/o now, and I'll be comparing the GS 63 VR to my daily driver razor blade a lot.
The GS 63 VR has a bigger screen, but it's not as big as you might think because of its smaller bezels.
It's also thicker than a razor blade. While the GS 63 VR has a slightly higher Z height, MSI can't take cute pictures of it next to dimes, it does have a built-
This, I suppose, leads to my first complaint, which is that MSI has chosen to install two cooling vents on the entire back third of this notebook.
The GS 63 VRS power brick delivers 10 percent more power than the razor's brick while being way bigger.
This isn't important on massive gaming beasts, where I typically don't even mention them unless they come with two or something similar,
but it's the kind of thing that matters for a machine that you expect to carry around every day maybe in a briefcase that matters because the must-carry accessories are part of the whole package and since I'm on a bit of a complained roll here.
Let's talk about bloatware:
Norton has Winzip, and what the hell is magic?
There was so much junk pre-loaded on this thing that I was unsure who should receive my extremely irate letter about the 100% CPU usage reporting bug.
I tried to remove the killer networking suite, but that didn't help.
The Windows 10 anniversary update also didn't help, and even a factory reset didn't change the behavior. So I emailed the manufacturer.
Turns out that the feature of the dragon suite intentionally fools Windows to keep it from entering a lower power state to speed up data transfers over SATA, dot 2, and USB.
I was oh that should be disabled by default and come with a warning when you turn it on.
I spent about Now that the keyboard is RGB with three lighting zones and the SteelSeries engine software to handle your macro and key rebinding needs, I'm going to give it a B. It's quiet, but I prefer a sharper tactile bump.
With a little less deck flex and the function up/down arrow reassigned to page up and page down instead of brightness up and brightness down, I'd give it a B+.
The touchpad falls into a pretty similar category. Two-handed operation It's hard to say how much of this is due to the gtx 1060 until I get some more samples and how much of it is due to MSI's approach to cooling,
which you can see with our internal shot has them taking advantage of the extra area inside the GS 63 VR with three fans and many heat pipes on an unusual upside-down motherboard configuration but it works and MSI even managed to squeeze user upgradeable sodium slots in there they aren't easy to get at but they're in there
